Morning is my favorite time of the day. As the dawn breaks, I grab my coffee and hurry to my deck to enjoy the fresh sea air and watch as the world comes to life. Each day is new and fresh and I want to capture the beauty of the sunrise with words. It seems impossible to transcribe the grandeur of what lies before me with any clarity, however it is in these precious moments of splendor that writing helps to capture my attention and identify where I see God: |
Deep within the waning indigo sky,
The crescent moon cuddles the twinkling stars,
Bidding their farewell to the passing night.
In their light, I see God.
On the horizon, the earth and sky begin to separate.
Under the soft glow of the mixed hues of violet, gray, blue and yellow
a new day begins to take shape.
The soft breeze ripples softly through the water.
Wispy lush green leaves sit high atop a tall palm stem,
Reflecting its regal authority in the living water below.
In gentle movement of the sea air, I see God.
As the celestial glow bows to the soft illumination of the horizon,
Seagulls weave effortlessly in and out of the wisps of mist.
The world turns to the east,
as the morning sky unfolds slowly with prisms of light.
The darkness yields to the anticipation of a new beginning.
In the receding kiss of twilight, I see God
The fluffs of cloud break away from the horizon
to make room for the coming warmth of the new day.
Stars twinkle one last time to honor the
master of light steadily making its presence known.
As the night sky bows to the breaking dawn, I see God.
The horizon can no longer hold back the light of the new day.
The orb of light cannot be sheltered in the far sky.
It breaks free with the sheer elegant colors too brilliant to be described.
Magnificent hues of pinks, yellows, and reds burst forth into the new day.
We begin anew. The extravagance of this sunrise offers new opportunities, fresh new thoughts. With each new breath, the re-creation of another new day is a gift to be cherished.
In each and every sunrise, I see God.
